The Boswell Sisers: Heebie Jeebie

Published by clarkspicks at 4:04 am under jazz

The Boswell sisters. Martha, Connee and Helvetia, were a pioneer close harmony singing group from New Orleans. They began their singing career there as teenagers, making their first record for Victor in 1925. They moved to New York in 1930 and worked with big bands led by the Dorsey brothers, Benny Goodman, Bunny Berigan and others until they broke up as a singing group in 1936, after which Connee Boswell continued as a solo act. The Boswells were the model for the more famous Andrews sisters.

This clip is from the 1932 musical comedy film “The Big Broadcast,” in which the Boswells played themselves.
